ABOUT AUSTIN & SAMANTHA
The A and S,
two hands,
one good reason.
AS You Wood's Story
Six years. Two diagnoses. One fight that isn't finished. Here's how we got here. and where we are right now.
2020
SUMMER
The first board.
Austin glues up an end-grain checkerboard one Saturday, posts it on Instagram. A neighbor pays $80 for it before it's even oiled.
2020
SPRING
Sammy Get's Diagnosed
Stage II breast cancer. Twenties, healthy, no family history. The kind of diagnosis you don't believe until you read it twice. The battle continue for a year.
2021
YEAR ONE
The workshop opens
We aim to support our local community and with that, all of our wood is sourced from small business owners, community members, friends, and family. Cabinet shop offcuts, downed walnut from a neighbor's lot, maple from a remodel down the road. Locally sourced and repurposed becomes the rule, not the constraint.

2022
CLEARED
Cancer-Free
After two years of treatment, scans, and second-guessing every ache, Sam gets the all-clear. We cry in the parking lot. We think it's over.
2023
ALL YEAR
Several Boards Sold
The garage gets reorganized. A second clamp rack goes up. The drum sander we'd been saving for finally arrives. Over 50 boards get sold most with custom engraving.

2025
IT'S BACK
The second Diagnosis.
Three years cancer-free. Then a routine scan, a biopsy, and a number on the phone we already knew. The cancer's back.
2026
TODAY · STILL FIGHTING
Still here. Still in it.
Sammy is still in active treatment. Some weeks are good. Some weeks the shop is quiet. The medical bills stack on the kitchen counter again — and every order helps chip at them.

Austin Pederson
The Craftsmen
Tattooed, bearded, a little impatient with anything that isn't a board. Runs a DeWalt-and-clamps operation out of a two-car garage. Buys new tools the way most people buy groceries.

Samantha Pederson
The Orchestrator
Co-owner. Picks the wood, picks the engravings, picks the families we donate to at year's end. Beat it once in 2022. Fighting it again in 2026. Stronger than the rest of us put together.
We're not here to sell you a story. We make boards. We donate. That's the whole thing.
